Stutzman only candidate to stand against destructive ‘Cap and Trade’ legislation

The free market grassroots group Americans for Prosperity (AFP) today applauded Marlin Stutzman for signing the group’s “No Climate Tax Pledge.” Stutzman joins more than 750 bipartisan lawmakers and candidates on the federal, state and local levels pledging to “oppose legislation relating to climate change that includes a net increase in government revenue.”

AFP Vice President for Policy, Phil Kerpen, said, “We encourage all of Indiana’s elected officials and candidates for elected office to sign the pledge.” Currently, Marlin is the only candidate in the race for Indiana’s 3rd Congressional District to take a stand for Hoosier families, Hoosier businesses, and Hoosier jobs here in Northeast Indiana.

Given our status as one of the nation’s strongest manufacturing bases, Indiana’s 3rd District would be especially devastated under an emissions trading scheme like cap and trade. Whether through skyrocketing utility costs, or forcing many manufacturing businesses to meet new government emissions mandates, every Hoosier would feel the economically destructive effects of indirect taxation from a cap and trade system. “The one thing elected officials should be able to agree on is that global warming shouldn’t be used as an excuse to hike taxes on citizens and businesses,” Kerpen added.
