Small business champion, NFIB, endorses Marlin

Sept. 9, 2010 — Today the National Federation of Independent Business, America’s leading small business association, announced its full support and endorsement of Marlin Stutzman in Indiana’s 3rd Congressional District.

As an NFIB member, Stutzman’s personal experience as a small business owner has helped to shape his legislative positions and priorities. Those top issues include opposition to the flawed healthcare law and being in favor of reforms that will help lower healthcare costs, the No. 1 concern of small business owners. He has pledged his commitment to support targeted tax cuts for small business, including extending individual tax rates and eliminating the estate tax.

“In a time when there is a lot of focus on helping small business, we believe Marlin Stutzman will work to find ways to deliver solutions to the most pressing concerns of small businesses. He has pledged his commitment to defending small businesses in Washington and working to exercise and encourage fiscal discipline, which is exactly what business owners need,” said Lisa Goeas, NFIB’s vice president for political operations.

Stutzman understands that small businesses are vital to our economic recovery. He believes in “getting out of the way” of small business and helping to reduce the regulatory burden hindering so many of those businesses from growing and hiring.

“We are inspired and thrilled that so many NFIB members and small business owners like Marlin Stutzman have decided to run for office. That’s exciting because that means that constituents, like those in Indiana’s 3rd District, will have a voice in Washington who has signed the front of a paycheck – someone who can understand how government impacts business,” said Goeas.

There are thousands of NFIB small business owners in Indiana, and even more small business employees and supporters, making this a significant endorsement in an important election year.

The endorsement comes from NFIB’s Save America’s Free Enterprise Trust, the association’s political action committee, and is based on positions on key small business issues including healthcare, taxes and labor and regulatory issues. With this endorsement, Stutzman gains the active grassroots and financial backing from Indiana’s small business owners.

Small business owners and their employees vote in high numbers and are known for actively recruiting friends, family members and acquaintances to go to the polls. NFIB will encourage Indiana’s members to help turn out the small business vote on Stutzman’s behalf on Election Day.
